the first bad word

jonas swore yesterday for the first time... i guess he had to do it sometime and i guess i should be happy that he is 5 and in kindergarten so i can blame it on his peers. i, unfortunately, missed it. but according to ben, this is what happened... i will tell you in the form of our texting.

ben:jonas just swore like 7 times. literally 4 times. i put him in time out. but it is also a little cute and funny.

rachel:what the crap did he say?

ben:damn. he jumped like a bug bit him, then slapped his arm 3 times and said "damn!" each time in rhythm. when i asked him where he learned it, he said he made it up.

rachel: what? that is so odd. and funny. did you laugh?

ben:no, but i wasn't mad or mean either. i started to giggle after i put him in time out a little. it was sort of surreal.

the first of many proud moments to come, I'm sure. Simon's first swear word was thanks to Ron. We used to get squirrels digging up our back yard looking for the nuts they'd hidden. Ticked Ron off. One morning, as I was taking Simon off to preschool, he stepped outside, looked at our wreck of a backyard, put his hands on his hips, and said, "Oh, S#$t. Squirrels." Like you said: at least you can blame Jonas's peers. Cute pictures of all of you. Nice to be able to see the kids grow even if we're not around.

My first swear word was actually me just showing my Aunt at dinner "that this is how you 'flip the bird' at my school."

I had no idea what it meant. I thought it was like Here is the Church, Here is the Steeple kind of thing.

I'm just happy it wasn't something worse and/or under different circumstances. Although I would pay money to have him swear in front of our Ward's Primary President. That's a journal entry day for you.

haha, too funny! I love you guys! Even you, Keller. Yeah, that would be AWESOME if Jonas swore in front of the primary president (sorry Amy, if you read this!)

and the squirrels would piss me off too! Colt, I'm sure you haven't "flipped the bird" since!
